An Allen Iverson trading card is currently up for auction, and it’s already attracting some serious attention. The bid has already surpassed $150,000, breaking the previous record for an Iverson card. This particular card is a 1997 Skybox E-X 2001 Iverson, part of a limited set that only produced three copies—this one being number #2. It’s listed on Heritage Auctions, with the auction ending on January 24, and an extended bidding session wrapping up on January 25.
This card is part of the Essential Credentials series, graded PSA Ex 5, which is considered in excellent condition (with the PSA scale going up to 10). The auction site describes the card as having “very minor rounding of the corners,” along with “surface wear or printing defects” and “minor chipping on edges.” So, it’s definitely not in perfect mint condition, but still, it’s a rare gem.
Heritage Auctions stated the previous record for an Iverson card was $79,200. But this one’s already topped that at $160,000, with bids still coming in.
The card is a piece of history tied to Iverson’s legendary career. He led the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001, the same year he was named MVP. Although the Sixers lost the Finals to the Los Angeles Lakers’ powerhouse duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, Iverson famously led Philly to a shocking Game 1 victory over the Lakers. Unfortunately for the 76ers, the Lakers took the next four games to claim the championship.
Iverson’s impact on the 76ers was undeniable. Over his career with the team, he averaged 27.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.3 steals in over 41 minutes per game.
