Chris Brown is taking legal action against Warner Bros., filing a $500 million lawsuit over the 2024 docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence. The 35-year-old singer claims the series wrongly paints him as a serial rapist and abuser.
In the lawsuit, which was filed on January 21, 2025, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Brown accuses the docuseries of making false sexual assault allegations against him. He specifically points to unproven claims from multiple women, including one Jane Doe, who alleges that Brown raped her in 2020. However, Brown’s legal team argues that Doe’s accusations have been discredited in previous legal cases, including a 2022 lawsuit that was dismissed. They also note a 2021 restraining order against her for alleged violent behavior.
Brown’s lawyers say the documentary does a disservice by focusing on past accusations instead of highlighting his personal growth since the 2009 assault involving Rihanna. They accuse Warner Bros. and the producers of misleading the public for financial gain, rather than sticking to the truth.
The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages, with Brown stating that he plans to donate part of the money to sexual abuse victims. He’s also demanding a jury trial for defamation, emotional distress, and the unauthorized use of his name and likeness, claiming the documentary has negatively impacted his career and business opportunities.
