The wife of rapper DJ Unk has confirmed that he tragically passed away at just 43 years old on January 24th after suffering a heart attack in his sleep. She also addressed rumors that drugs were involved, clarifying that they were completely false.
DJ Unk, best known for his 2006 dance anthems “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” was a key figure in blending Southern hip-hop with infectious, danceable beats. His tracks became a staple on the party scene and are still remembered as classic dancefloor hits.
In an emotional post on Facebook, Sherkita shared the heartbreaking news and asked for privacy during this difficult time. She wrote, “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband, and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”
DJ Unk’s career took off in the late ’90s when he co-founded Southern Style DJs with DJ Montay and DJ Jelly. He signed with Big Oomp Records in 2000, and though he faced some health issues in 2009 that impacted his career, he continued to create music in the years after.
Sherkita made it clear that DJ Unk did not use drugs, shutting down any speculation about the cause of his death.
