Shakea Miller’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. After dropping out of college twice, she has finally earned her degree in Business from the University of Phoenix in November 2024. But that’s just the beginning of her remarkable story. Shakea has been accepted into law school and has also been awarded three honorary doctorates—all of this after becoming one of the first African American women to open her own degree-granting technical college in Alabama.
Her path to success began when she founded 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College in Phenix City, Alabama, making her the sixth African American woman in the country to establish such an institution. The college officially opened on June 24, 2024, and offers a wide range of degree programs and over 50 new certificate programs designed to meet the demands of today’s workforce.
Shakea said by starting this college, she hopes to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators. She wants to create an environment that educates, empowers, and encourages students to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
Her story is a testament to resilience. As a teenage mother, Shakea faced many obstacles, but she turned those challenges into motivation. Her leadership and dedication to educational equity have earned her numerous awards, and her work continues to inspire others.
Anyone interested in learning more about the programs offered at 1 on 1 Technical & Theological College is invited to visit the campus, meet the faculty, and explore the opportunities available.
