Karen Huger, from The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to a year in jail following a DUI conviction. The 61-year-old reality star was found guilty after a car accident in Potomac, Maryland, back in March 2024.
On December 19th, Karen was convicted of DUI, negligent driving, and failing to control her speed, among other charges, though she was acquitted of reckless driving. According to USA Today, a Maryland judge sentenced her to two years in jail but suspended one year. In addition to jail time, Karen will have to pay a $2,900 fine, refrain from driving for a year, and complete five years of supervised probation. Once her driving privileges are restored, she’ll also have to use an interlock device in her vehicle.
The accident in March involved Karen crashing her car, crossing a median, and hitting street signs. During her arrest, body-cam footage was shown in court and at the RHOP reunion, where Karen admitted to drinking and refused a sobriety test. In the footage, she appeared intoxicated, slurring her words, and making some odd comments. She even told officers she was “really rich” and “Thomas Jefferson’s concubine,” insisting they would be “ashamed” after Googling her.
Karen has been a main cast member on RHOP since 2016, known for her larger-than-life personality. She didn’t attend the recent RHOP reunion, instead sharing a pre-recorded message revealing that she had entered rehab. Throughout the season, her behavior had been a hot topic, with her co-stars criticizing her actions.
