Guess who’s joining Kendrick Lamar on stage for the Super Bowl halftime show? None other than the amazing SZA!
The two stars dropped a teaser on Thursday, showing Kendrick walking across a football field when SZA sneakily pops up behind him and splashes him with water. The halftime show will go down on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and it’s sure to be an unforgettable performance.
SZA, who used to be signed to Kendrick’s Top Dawg Entertainment label, has worked with him before, appearing on his recent album GNX on tracks like “Gloria” and “Luther” (which samples vocals from Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn). Of course, their past collaborations also include the Oscar-nominated hit “All the Stars” and “Doves in the Wind.”
On top of the Super Bowl show, Kendrick and SZA will be co-headlining a 19-city tour this spring and summer, kicking off April 19 in Minneapolis and wrapping up June 18 in Washington, D.C.
SZA’s got big plans ahead — she’s up for two Grammy nominations for her single “Saturn” in the Best R&B Song and R&B Performance categories. She’s already bagged four Grammys in total!
As for Kendrick, he’s got seven nominations heading into the Grammys, including nods for “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, and “Not Like Us,” which is up for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year. He’s also got 17 Grammys under his belt.
Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins are co-executive producing the halftime show, with Kendrick’s creative direction handled by his company pgLang, which he co-founded with Dave Free — who’s also directed a lot of Kendrick’s music videos.
Last year, Usher wowed fans with a star-packed performance, featuring guests like H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys. Can’t wait to see what Kendrick and SZA have in store!
