Country star Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at Donald Trump’s inauguration next week, and the iconic 1970s group Village People will take the stage at a couple of inaugural events.
Underwood, who rose to fame on American Idol, is set to sing just before Trump takes the oath of office at the U.S. Capitol on January 20. She shared her excitement in a statement, saying, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration. It’s a historic event, and I’m humbled to be part of it at a time when we need unity and hope for the future.”
The Village People, known for their catchy dance-pop hits and flamboyant on-stage personas, will also be part of the festivities. Their 1978 anthem “Y.M.C.A.,” a song often associated with the LGBTQ+ community, became a fixture at Trump’s rallies during the election. The group will perform at one of the inaugural balls and also at a rally in Washington the day before the swearing-in.
