If there’s one thing Tina Knowles won’t tolerate, it’s anyone coming for her family.
This week, the Knowles matriarch went full-on mama bear after Kanye West took aim at her loved ones in one of his latest social media rants. On Tuesday, West flooded timelines with a string of now-deleted tweets, throwing shade at industry figures—including an offensive comment about Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s twins, Rumi and Sir.
“WAIT HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN JAY Z AND BEYONCE’S YOUNGER KIDS,” he tweeted, according to Peoplemagazine, before making an ableist remark about the children’s mental capacity.
While Jay-Z and Beyoncé typically steer clear of online drama, Mama Knowles wasn’t about to let this one slide. Taking to Instagram, she clapped back in her own way—through humor.
“So I’m on the set of a photoshoot today for my book, and I wanted to tell you a corny joke,” she said in a video. “What happens when a snowman throws a tantrum? He has a meltdown. Y’all know that’s funny.”
The shade was undeniable. And while she later toned down her caption to just “corny joke, time,” TMZ reports that her original post carried a much stronger message:
“It’s hard to remain positive and classy in the face of ignorance and evil. But I know that no weapon formed against me or my family shall prosper. This battle is not mine, but the Lord’s, I know that God has got this.”
Tina has always been fiercely protective of her family, whether it’s her kids or grandkids. And while they may urge her to ignore the noise, sometimes she just can’t.
“I’m a protector of my kids, and I just feel like that’s my job,” she said. “My kids are always like, ‘Mama, just ignore that.’ But at some point, it’s enough. Because imagine being a mother and watching someone lie about your child—it’s hard.”
And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Tina Knowles is never afraid to stand up for her own.
