More than seven years after Keir Johnson and her daughter Chloe went missing, authorities have arrested Chloe’s father, Carlos Johnson Jr., in connection with their presumed deaths. He’s now facing two counts of first-degree murder.
Carlos Johnson Jr., 46, was taken into custody last February 14 during a traffic stop in Newport News, Virginia. He’s linked to the 2017 disappearance of his ex-girlfriend Keir Johnson and their 8-month-old daughter Chloe.
Keir and Chloe were last seen on April 30, 2017, when they were on their way to Buckroe Beach in Hampton to meet friends—but they never showed up. Their family reported them missing shortly after, and an AMBER Alert was issued 11 days later.
Not long after, Keir’s abandoned car was found, and the investigation, which has remained open for years, began to look more and more like a double homicide, despite the bodies never being found.
Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew had long believed foul play was involved and was confident someone would eventually be held accountable. Family spokesperson Pettway says the arrest confirms what they’ve suspected all along.
Authorities are still looking for more information and are urging anyone with details to come forward. A $35,000 reward is still being offered for tips that lead to the recovery of Keir and Chloe.
