Nigerian gospel singer and pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has received a special invitation to minister at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20 in Washington, D.C.
Bassey shared the exciting news with his followers on Instagram, posting an event flyer that highlighted the occasion.
The U.S. Prayer Breakfast is a non-political, faith-based event aimed at providing spiritual support for the country’s government and leadership. Held once every four years, it takes place right before the inauguration of the new president. This year’s breakfast will happen just ahead of Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance’s swearing-in ceremony.
The event will be hosted by Reverend Merrie Turner at the Waldorf Astoria’s prestigious Presidential Ballroom. The lineup will include notable speakers such as Dr. Alveda King and Pastor Mario Bramnick.
Bassey, who’s also an accomplished trumpeter and the founder of the Hallelujah Challenge—an online Christian worship movement—has built a massive following with his powerful songs, including “Imela,” “Onise Iyanu,” and “Olowogbogboro.” His music blends jazz, worship, hymns, and medleys, making him one of the most listened-to gospel artists from Nigeria.
Earlier in 2024, Bassey was honored by the Mayor of Albany, New York, who declared October 6 as “Pastor Nathaniel Bassey Day” in recognition of his contributions to gospel music and ministry.
