LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, are pushing back against allegations in a lawsuit related to a car crash that happened in November 2022. The two are denying all the claims made against them. According to court documents from the Los Angeles Times and People, the NBA star and his 20-year-old son “deny each and every allegation” and dispute any claims of damages, though it’s unclear exactly how much the plaintiffs are seeking.
The lawsuit was filed on October 23, 2024, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillien say LeBron and Bronny crashed into them on Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock, California, on November 13, 2022. They’re accusing the father-son duo of being negligent in how they operated the car, leading to the crash.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys claim they’ve had to pay for medical treatment, including doctors, surgeons, and ongoing care, and are expecting future medical costs related to the accident. They’re also alleging lost wages due to time off work. In addition, they say their car, which belonged to Lopez and was being driven by McGillien at the time, was damaged and devalued.
Interestingly, the lawsuit was filed just hours before LeBron and Bronny made NBA history on October 22, 2024, by becoming the first father-son duo to ever play together in an NBA game. The Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103, and afterward, LeBron shared how special the moment was. “That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, it’s a moment I’m never going to forget,” he said. “No matter how old I get, no matter how my memory may fade, I will never forget that moment.”
