The 56-year-old political commentator’s show The ReidOut has been canceled at MSNBC as part of a big shakeup under the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, according to sources speaking with the New York Times.
The 7 p.m. primetime slot once held by The ReidOut will now feature a new panel show with co-hosts Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders Townsend, as reported by Deadline.
The ReidOut, which debuted in July 2020, was a milestone as MSNBC’s first primetime show hosted by a Black woman. Over nearly five years, Reid offered sharp, witty commentary while diving into major news and politics stories. She was known for giving a platform to underrepresented voices and became a prominent critic of Trump and his administration.
The show’s final episodes will air next week.
Kutler’s decision follows the departure of former MSNBC president Rashida Jones, who stepped down after four years in the role, stating she’d be pursuing new opportunities.
As TV networks struggle with ratings in a rapidly changing media environment, MSNBC, which leans left politically, is expected to undergo more changes. Comcast, which owns MSNBC, is planning to spin off the network and others in its portfolio to focus on NBC and Bravo. Meanwhile, Fox News, a right-wing network, continues to enjoy strong ratings.
