Harry Belafonte was an incredible legend, on and off the screen. His ascent and rise through Hollywood was historic. Although segregation was still rampant through the U.S., his on-screen presence and command of the spotlight was iconic. But he never stopped there. As he continued to rise and his fame shattered racial barriers, he chose to spread that influence into his fight for civil rights, and was a powerful force within the Civil Rights Movement, alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a champion for Black Americans and continued his activism until he passed away today, Tuesday, at his home in Manhattan, NY, on the Upper West Side, at the age of 96. He will be forever remembered for the incredible impact he had on this world. May he rest in peace… 🤍
