Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal over the company’s documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. The lawsuit, filed in a New York state court, claims the documentary falsely accuses him of serious crimes, including sexually assaulting minors and being involved in the death of his former partner, Kimberly Porter.
The lawsuit alleges that NBCUniversal knowingly aired false accusations without any proof, portraying Combs as a serial murderer and sexual predator. It argues that the documentary’s creators acted recklessly, spreading baseless rumors to generate sensational headlines. “In the documentary, Defendants accuse Mr. Combs of horrible crimes, including serial murder and sexual assault of minors—knowing there’s not a shred of evidence to support them,” the lawsuit states. Combs and his legal team argue that NBCUniversal prioritized profit over truth, damaging his reputation in the process.
NBCUniversal has not responded to requests for comment yet, according to TMZ. However, Combs’ attorney, Erica Wolff, slammed the documentary’s producers in a statement, saying, “As described in today’s lawsuit, NBCUniversal Media, LLC, Peacock TV, LLC, and Ample LLC made a conscious decision to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency, and basic standards of professional journalism. They grossly exploited the trust of their audience and raced to outdo their competition for the most salacious Diddy exposé.”
On top of this lawsuit, Combs is facing separate legal challenges, as he awaits trial on federal charges, including sex trafficking. He’s denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and maintains his innocence.
Combs, born in 1969, is a rapper, producer, and entrepreneur who has become one of the most influential figures in hip-hop. He gained fame in the early 90s as an executive at Uptown Records before founding his own label, Bad Boy Entertainment. Through Bad Boy, he helped launch the careers of artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and Faith Evans. Beyond music, Combs has built a massive empire with ventures in fashion, liquor, television, and media, making him one of the wealthiest figures in the entertainment world.
However, his career hasn’t been without controversy. Alongside his current legal troubles, Combs has faced lawsuits and allegations over the years, including accusations of assault and disputes with former artists. His involvement in a 1999 nightclub shooting, which led to a trial where he was acquitted, remains one of the most publicized events in his career.
