A woman who accused former UFC champion Conor McGregor of sexual assault but was unsuccessful in getting criminal charges filed is now suing him and employees of the basketball arena where she says the attack took place.
The woman, a 49-year-old senior VP at a prominent Wall Street firm, alleges McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom after the Miami Heat’s Game 4 loss to the Denver Nuggets on June 9. The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in Florida, accuses McGregor of assaulting her and the arena staff of failing to intervene or provide proper security.
The woman’s attorney, James Dunn, explained that although his client was concerned about the potential impact on her job, she decided to file the suit to raise awareness and encourage others to come forward about sexual assault.
According to the lawsuit, arena staff knew McGregor posed a heightened risk but continued to serve him alcohol. McGregor had been at the game for a promotional skit where he physically interacted with the Heat’s mascot, Burnie, before allegedly taking the woman into the men’s bathroom after the game, where the assault occurred.
Although authorities investigated the matter, they decided not to file criminal charges after four months. This is not McGregor’s first legal trouble, as he was recently ordered to pay 250,000 euros in a separate civil case in Ireland involving a different assault claim.
