Elon Musk, who took over as CEO of Twitter, when he bought the platform, announced significant updates for the platform via his Twitter account. The features will improve DM capabilities, encryption sophistication and will create voice and video chat functions well above what is currently offered.
In order to access the new features, each user is required to have the latest version of the app. If this is done, users will have the ability to respond to any message in a DM thread, instead of being limited to respond to the most recent message. In addition, users will be able to send any emoji reaction in responses.
Musk also shared that on May 10, 2023, Twitter would release the first version of encrypted DMs in what they are calling V1.0. That level of encryption will continue to grow “rapidly” until they are able to achieve an “acid test” level of sophistication. In that final version of encryption, all DMs would be impenetrable, even to Elon Musk himself.
Lastly, and perhaps one of the most exciting new developments coming soon for the app is its ability to conduct voice and video chats with anywhere in the world. This would allow users to utilize the app to talk to anyone in the world without sharing their phone number.
These and more updates will surely continue to be fine-tuned as Twitter works to provide even more value to its users.
