black lives matter: London Marches against violence on the black community

“Black lives matter”; this is what the world is trying to tell racist and racist apologists.

About a week now, the world has watched the United States take to the street to fight for justice; following the death of George Floyd. A black man who died after a police officer pressed his knee on his neck until he stopped breathing.

It would seem the whole world (not just America) is tired of the violence the black community is exposed to. Floyd’s death on May 25 in Minneapolis was the latest in a series of deaths of black men and women at the hands of police; especially in the U.S. Although the protest started in Minneapolis, it didn’t take too long before extending to other parts of America. However, London has joined the fight against racism and violence against blacks.

Thousands gathered in central London on Sunday the 31st of June, to show support for their American counterparts. Chorusing “Black Lives Matter!“, “No justice! No peace!” and waving placards with the words “How many more?”- we believe they’ve been heard loud and clear. Ignoring the U.K. government rules banning crowds because of the pandemic, the demonstrators gathered at Trafalgar Square. However, the Police didn’t stop them. Proceeding to the U.S. Embassy, they were met with a long line of officers surrounding the building. A couple of hundred protesters scattered around in the street and waved placards.

The U.S. Embassy in Berlin and Denmark was also visited by protesters saying the same thing: Black Lives Matter! In Berlin, several hundred people took to the streets in the capital’s Kreuzberg area. Bearing placard with slogans like; “Silence is Violence,” “Hold Cops Accountable,” and “Who Do You Call When Police Murder?” splashed all over them. No incidents were reported.
