Jorge Santana, the youngest brother of renowned guitarist Carlos Santana has died. However, an accomplished musician in his own right.
Jorge died of natural causes; John Regna – His rep says. Jorge was the youngest of 3 brothers and the second one, after Carlos, to pick up a guitar. Jorge was 14 when he started playing in San Francisco. In the ’60s he started a band with some high school friends -The Malibus. The band later went on to change in name in 1970 to Malo.
Malo signed with Warner Bros and its self-titled album which included the top 20 hit; “Suavecito”. The track was such a huge hit, they would end up performing on “American Bandstand,” in 1972. 3 albums later, the band breaks up. Jorge had also been playing in a band – The Fania All-Stars. The band performed at the classic Yankee Stadium in 1973 with more than 63,000 in attendance. Jorge released 2 solo albums titled “Jorge Santana” and “It’s all About Love”; in 1978 and 1979 respectively.
He moved on to work as director of artist relations at his brothers’ management company. Jorge got to tour in the ’90s with his brother while the brother duo came together for the 1994 album “Santana Brothers”.
