Chloe Williams, an 8-year-old girl from Memphis, Tennessee, tragically passed away after collapsing at school. The second-grader was playing on the playground at Libertas School of Memphis when the incident happened on Feb. 17.
Staff members quickly jumped into action, providing aid until paramedics arrived to take her to the hospital. Despite all efforts, Chloe couldn’t be saved, according to WLBT.
The exact cause of her death hasn’t been confirmed yet, but school officials suspect it may have been linked to an internal medical condition.
Chloe’s mother described her daughter as a “ray of sunshine everywhere she went,” sharing that Chloe loved helping others and dreamed of becoming a nurse. To help with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe page has been set up, raising over $10,000 so far.
Though it’s rare for children to collapse at school, these kinds of incidents do happen occasionally. Causes can range from medical conditions like heart issues or dehydration to accidents or heat exhaustion. While schools are typically prepared with trained staff and emergency services, these events are still incredibly hard for families and communities to cope with.
