Chadwick Boseman’s Visit to Terminally Ill Kids While He Battled Cancer
Even as he privately battled with colon cancer, Chadwick Boseman put on a brave face to bring smiles to children in similar fights
In 2018, two years after the “Black Panther” star was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, Chadwick paid a visit to St. Jude’s Hospital. He stated in a video that he felt a huge sense of responsibility when he found out that two little kids, battling terminal illnesses looked forward to the movie.
‘It’s a humbling experience because you’re like, “This can’t mean that much to them,” you know?’ he said. ‘But seeing how the world has taken us on, seeing how the movement is, how it’s taken on a life of its own, I realized that they anticipated something great.’
While he chose not to share his own illness with the world, the “Black Panther” star did what he could to support children enduring the same plight.”It’s not every day that St. Jude gets a visit from an Avenger!,” the hospital said at the time, attached images of the actor with several children, all of whom basked in the presence of Chadwick. “Thank you @ChadwickBoseman for stopping by to bring joy to our patients and learn more about our lifesaving mission!”, an hospital representative shared.
A post on the facility’s Instagram page by a rep expressed the sadness they feel as a result of his sudden death.“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Chadwick Boseman. “Two years ago, Chadwick visited the St. Jude campus and brought with him not only toys for our patients but also joy, courage and inspiration. He was an incredible role model for our patients and children from all around the world. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
