Beyoncé Will Receive the BET Humanitarian Award 2020

Beyoncé will receive a major honor at the upcoming 2020 BET Awards. In a virtual ceremony showing on BET and CBS, on Sunday, the 29th of June, she will be awarded the “BET Humanitarian Award”.

Beyonce, will be honored for her long-standing philanthropic work, including her recent COVID-19 relief efforts. She has also donated to support organizations on the ground helping to meet basic health and mental needs in communities affected by the pandemic.

The BET Awards began handing out the Humanitarian honor in 2002 in order to honor celebrities who donate their time and money to charitable causes. To date, honorees have included: Muhammad Ali, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Danny Glover, Denzel Washington, Pauletta Washington, Harry Belafonte, Don Cheadle, Quincy Jones, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Steve Harvey, Rev. Al Sharpton, Dwayne Wade, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Tom Joyner, Jesse Williams, Chance the Rapper, Naomi Wadler, Mamoudou Gassama, Justin Blackman, Shaun King, Anthony Borges, James Shaw Jr. and, in 2019, Nipsey Hussle.

However, Beyonce isn’t the only one being honored at this years event. BET will also honor Kobe Bryant and Little Richard – Two Black personalities who died this year. Rapper Lil Wayne is billed to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant. While actor and comedian Wayne Brady is set to speak about Little Richard.

Timbaland, Swizz Beats, Nicolas Johnson, and D-Nice are also being named 2020 Shine a Light honorees. French anti-racist activist Assa Traore has been named BET International’s Global Good Recipient.

What are your thoughts; well deserved, or you don’t think she has done enough to receive this?
